Kiss The One We Are (2023)

In Kiss The One We Are, Daniel Linehan continues his research into the relationship between dance, the body and the connection to everything else. Movement is the first form we use to express ourselves, before the use of language. In every culture, people dance to celebrate. We share emotions through dance and it connects us. Some dedicate their whole life to it and tell stories with movement. There is dance in each one of us and in nature all around us. From objects in the universe circling in endless orbits to atomic particles generating energy in similar patterns. Everything is in motion.

Daniel Linehan invites nine dancers to excavate their dancing past with an archaeological eye by posing the same key question he asked himself for his solo Body of work: “What moves me?”. The answers are personal and diverse, and at the same time there are recurring motifs. The need to express oneself with movement, finding a place in the world and the joy of dancing are common denominators. In the piece, personal memories, traces of physical memory and connections between dancers and the world that surrounds them weave their way into a web. The group invites us to an undefined place for a journey into their own dimension.

‘Kiss the One We Are is at its best in those moments where the dance is allowed to speak for itself. In that sense, the final scene is a true jewel.’
