Un Sacre du Printemps (2015)

Following a workshop he led with musicologist Alain Franco at P.A.R.T.S in 2013, choreographer Daniel Linehan is creating his own interpretation of Stravinsky’s masterpiece Le Sacre du Printemps with thirteen young dancers.

Linehan’s focus is not on the well-known story of Le Sacre. Instead, he examines the structure of the musical composition itself. Despite the absence of stable patterns, the dancers must find a way to keep moving to Stravinsky’s uncompromising piece. The question that seems to arise from this radical score from the past is “How can we find new strategies to cope with our rapidly changing circumstances?”

The audience, seated close to the dancers and musicians, is fully absorbed by the collective energetic state of the music and the dance.

For the occasion of the premiere at deSingel, conductor Vincenzo Casale is leading an orchestra composed of members of the TWIS Youth Orchestra (Brussels) and students of the Royal Conservatory Antwerp (AP Hogeschool). On tour the dancers will be accompanied by Alain Franco and Jean-Luc Plouvier (Ictus) on the piano.
